2007 Camaro Concept Vehicle

The 2007 Camaro Concept

2007 Chevrolet Camaro Concept with Designers

While walking around the 2006 Chicago Auto Show I came across the 2007 Chevrolet Camaro Concept vehicle. Sitting upon its stand it gave off a hint of its heritage from which it appears to be extensively based on. The silver concept vehicle was surrounded by its two creators who were on hand for the media to question and probe as to how they ended up on the design we saw before us.

The Designers

Interior design - One of the interior designers was a Frenchmen (seen on the left of the photo). While briefly I was able to speak with him I asked about how it must of been odd to design such an American Icon. Especially to have not of grown up with it in the manner that most Americans have. He in kind responded that he much like everyone knew of the Heritage of the Camaro and wanted to respect it. I was unable to get a second with the Exterior Desginer as there was a line of other reporters writers and camera crews talking to they young in-demand men.

The 2007 Camaro Concept team is currently based out of the Motor City and on-hand was a member from the Exterior Design team(seen on the right side of the photo) who said that they had been working 12+ hours a day 6 and 7 days a week for the past year in order to design the Camaro Concept. From the look of their hard work and that of the builders it appears as if it was all worth it.

My Thoughts

Although it much like the newly redone Ford Mustang the Camaro gets alot of its styling cues from its past. The curves and lines hark back to the 60s which give it that (retro) feel. I do however draw issue with the rear end. If you put the 2007 Camaro Concept next to an 2006 Chevrolet Corvette you see a very similar tail. As distinct as the Corvettes is the Camaro is oddly similar. If the only difference that I was able to notice was the Camaro had a bit more curve to it then the Corvette. Overall I have to admit I like it there will people that love and those that hate but it isnt by any means an ugly car. I feel sorry for these designers of the Charger Mustang and Camaro and what they have to deal with. No matter what they do there is a group of car lovers out there ready to pounce on them and say they didnt get it right. All a designer can hope is that more love it then hate it.
