Supplier of Drugs of a Different Sort
New cars are worth more in parts then as a whole, why else would so many Honda Accords and other cheaper cars get stolen each year. High volume sales for cars means more on the road which means more in accidents which means more demand for parts. I would imagine it would be easier to steal, chop, and sell the parts of a Toyota Camry then a Jaguar XLK. Its the simple economy factors: supply and demand.
At the same time I always wondered what really is so different from a Toyota to a Ford to a BMW as far as parts. There are only so many companies that can supply so many items. What could make them all so different?
Well I cant answer that question but what I can tell you is where Ford gets its supplies from. Ford recently released thier family of strategic suppliers which included some 43 companies dating back to contracts starting in September of 2005. Below you will find some stats and a full listing of the suppliers.
- Starting on September 29, 2005 ford moves to building stronger relationships with suppliers
- Ford is looking to reduce the number of suppliers by 50% over time
- Looks to work with more financially stable suppliers on long term basis
- As of 12/4 some 43 suppliers have been identified and 13 have already seen $4.1B in new/extended contracts
